What Does “Shipped Pending” Mean?
If you’ve come across the status “Shipped Pending” on your order and are wondering what it actually means - don’t worry!
At its core, “Shipped Pending” simply means that your order has been picked, packed, and dispatched by a Third Party Logistics (3PL) team, but it hasn't yet been scanned into the courier’s network.
So, what could be going on behind the scenes? There are typically two main possibilities:
1. The Parcel Hasn’t Been Handed Over to the Courier (Yet)
In some cases, the 3PL might have packed your order, created the shipping label, and marked it as ready for pickup - but it hasn’t been physically handed over to the courier just yet. This could happen if the parcel was missed during the handoff or still sitting in the warehouse waiting for collection.
While this isn’t the norm, rest assured that warehouse teams usually have checks in place before ending their day to catch any stragglers.
2. The Courier Hasn’t Scanned the Parcel Into Their System
This is the most common scenario.
Different couriers have different processes. Some scan packages at the point of collection, while others do it later at their depot - especially when dealing with high volumes collected in bulk (like in cages or yorks).
When scanning is delayed or missed, it can lead to a lack of updates on the tracking timeline, and in rare cases, parcels may become lost within the courier’s network.
Unfortunately, if a parcel was never scanned, it’s marked in the system as “expecting parcel” - which makes it hard to trace or confirm delivery. Because of this, most couriers do not accept claims for loss in these cases, and Hutch is unable to provide compensation for Shipped Pending orders.
